July 4th VW Beetle Car & Star Cookies

I love the old VW Beetle Cars! So when I saw them as  cookie cutters, I had to get them.

I just made the regular recipe for cut out cookies, then decorated them with Fondant. If you need the recipe for these, just go here.  You can print it.

This is really the first time I’ve worked with fondant. I love it! You can make anything! If you can figure out how. I’m no expert that’s for sure. But I do plan on practicing and getting better at it. This next picture is some of my other decorations, the bucket and all.

Oh, I forgot, the one car has a 16 on it because it’s my son’s birthday, July 4th. He’s going to be 16! I still can’t believe it! The years just go by so fast, it’s crazy.

This last picture has the star cookies my kids made me. You may have seen these earlier in the week. I posted about them.

Fondant is great to work with, make any shapes and any colors you want. The cars are covered with fondant, just cut a piece out, lay it on the cookie and then cut it out.  To color it you just put a little food coloring in the pieces you’re going to use.

For the flag I just cut out a square of the white and then made the red strips and the little square of blue. The stars are those little sprinkles.  I used a toothpick for the pole.  You won’t believe how easy fondant is to work with!

Thank you for stopping by! I really appreciate it!

My kids would have so much fun “helping” me make these.

  2. VWs just make me smile. They are such a happy car, aren’t they? I loved it when the newer models came out and they had added a spot to put fresh or faux flowers in the dash. How cool!

These cookies are so fun! I have used fondant on a cake. Not so fun trying to cover the cake without the fondant cracking! This seems so much more my style! To decorate a cookie! You could be really imaginative and unique with your additions! I love yours.

Happy Birthday to your son, 16 is such a milestone!

  3. They look so nice, I don’t think I would dare eating them! Well, they look yummy too, so I wouldn’t probably control myself… #WAYWOW

    • Frenchie Mummy,
Thank you! July 4th is also my son’s birthday. So I made those for him. It’s the best I’ve used fondant. Which I love now, it’s like Play-Doh and you can make anything. Have a wonderful holiday!
