This Black Forrest Cake with Ganache Frosting is delicious! It's easy to make and so easy to get the frosting on evenly and so pretty. See the Gif!
Recipe type: Dessert
Serves: 10
  • 1 Chocolate Cake Mix
  • Eggs, Water, Oil for the Mix
  • Ganache -
  • 1¼ Cups Heavy cream
  • 12 oz. Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
  • 1 teasp Vanilla (Or whatever flavoring you'd like)
  • 2 Cans Cherry Pie Filling
  • Small Whipped cream
  1. Mix cake according to directions
  2. Spray and Flour pans, cut round pieces of parchment paper out for the bottoms
  3. Bake cake in two 8 or 9" round pans
  4. Then put on racks to cool all the way
  5. Ganache -
  6. Place the choc chips in a bowl
  7. Heat the cream in a pan just until it starts to boil
  8. Then pour over the choc chips
  9. Let sit for 10 mins
  10. Then whisk it together
  11. It'll be very thin. To get it thicker for frosting, place in refrigerator for 30 - 60 mins. Just check it after a half hour and see if it's thick enough to frost with.
  12. Whip the small whip cream with your mixer until stiff peaks form
  13. Put a layer of the cake on your tray and ice with some whipped cream and some of the cherries
  14. Then place the other cake layer on, and Ice the top and sides with the chocolate ganache.
  15. Pipe some whipped cream around the edge of the top
  16. Place a lot of cherries on the top
  17. ENJOY!

I made this the easy way, with the box cake mix and the canned cherries. You can always find a homemade way to do both of those. It really tastes delicious though!

I hope you enjoy this as much as we did! Thank you for stopping by! Please leave a comment with any suggestions or questions. I love hearing from everyone! Have a great day!

Now this looks delicious and I could also make it with gluten free cake mix and the frosting ganache looks wonderful and you cannot go wrong with cherries, it is pinned and I am going to try it in next week when my kids and families all come for a visit, thank you for this post, it looks yummy

  8. OH yum!!! What a beautiful cake! I love that you used cake mix and canned cherries. I’m all for baking from scratch, but it’s nice to know that are excellent options for those times when you’re busy or don’t feel like making a big mess in the kitchen.
